Designing Our Futures

Designing our Futures
Tuesday 7 October 2008, Salisbury Playhouse

An opportunity for the arts industry in Swindon and Wiltshire to debate the future

Arts practitioners in the region had the opportunity to debate current topics regarding public funding of the arts and the delivery of cultural services when Wiltshire & Swindon Arts Alliance (W&SAA) hosted a one day conference at Salisbury Playhouse.

Designing our Futures was created for arts practitioners, arts managers, councillors and officers of local authorities, and was of interest to anyone working in the creative industries. Seminars during the day covered subjects such as how local authorities organise their cultural services, how to measure quality in the arts, audience development and the economic impact of the arts.

There were discussions around W&SAA’s latest research into the creative industries in Swindon and Wiltshire and audiences at principal arts venues.

Speakers at the conference included:

  •  Ed Vaizey MP (Shadow Arts Minister)
  • Geraint Talfan Davies (Chair of Welsh National Opera and former Chair of the Arts Council of Wales)
  • Chris Humphrey (Acting Executive Director for Arts Council England, South West)
  • and Kim Hart (British Association of Arts Festivals).

Helen Miah, Chair of W&SAA, said:

“This is a great opportunity for people from all areas of the creative industries to meet like-minded people and debate important issues that will shape the future of arts provision both locally and nationally.”
